Preparing to Face the Future - PFF

(A post of choice -Module 13)

John Dewey wrote “Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results” This message tells learning facilitators that students learn more when they are actively involved in their learning and find the technology attractive, engaging,  and relevant to their life.

I realized that in Techies Club, when we created an authentic digital learning environment.  Students created meaningful connections, acquired knowledge, opportunities, and experiences. Collaborated and managed the process of active learning. Naturally, constructivism, connectivism, and cognitivism merged focusing on the whole student.

In the club each student decided if they rode or drove the bike. Many factors emerged on each member: interest, intrinsic motivation, and perseverance when learning technology.  Some students that chose to ride the bike, needed a lot of support and left the club in the middle of the road. While, the students that chose to drive the bike were persistent and took advantage of the technological opportunities offered in the club.

All club members started with basic knowledge in coding and apple technology. By the middle of March 2020. Their growth mindset was exponential and versatile on a variety of apps, such as playgrounds, Sphero Edu, keynote, and iMovie.   During the COVID19 crisis, the club members demonstrated their prompt adaptation to online e-learning compared with regular students.

Creating an authentic digital learning environment allowed students to be more prepare to face the world and adapt quickly to any situation.
