FREE LIBRE OPEN SOURCE - flos

(A post of choice -Module 12)

“No one can whistle a symphony, it takes a whole orchestra to play it.” by Halford E. Luccock. With this quote, Techies Club started to promote a collaborative digital system to empower students from different levels to learn from each other.

The collaborative culture in our Techies Club increased with the implementation of diverse opportunity strategies or “Free Libre Open Source” – FLOS. Where each member received a small piece of paper with  seven choices and each one selected 2 to 3 of them, to work with or explore in each session.  This strategy allowed students to work on his/her interest according to their own growth mindset journey.

Each student organized their own agenda, schedule, and partners, according to the topics selected and their relationship with other members.  Not many of them worked alone, however, these students always were ready to help any member. This dynamic created different digital skills and abilities in each member, increased communication, and efficiency of using apple technology. Students were aware of each member’s expertise.

When new members joined the club, students were receptive and guided them with a tour for coding with Sphero BOLTs, playgrounds, keynotes, iMovie, Clips, Pages, MeeBot Dance, and explained them the importance of the growth mindset.   I overheard them talk with new club members stating: “Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, that it how you learn.”  Their confidence to share their knowledge increased when interacting with students, staff, and members of the community.

Techies Club’s Collaborative Digital System allowed members to learn more effectively among them and develop leadership inside the club. This collaborative culture was transfer to their regular classes.
